Labour Disputes in China 中国劳务纠纷解读The British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong held a seminar on the topic of “Labour Disputes in China” on 13th June at the British Centre in Guangzhou. We were honoured to have Cherry Wu as our speaker. Cherry is a HR Manager and was representing our member company, Dezan Shira & Associates, a pan-Asia, multi-disciplinary professional services firm, providing legal, tax and operational advisory to international corporate investors.
We also invited Kent Woo, Partner at another of our member companies, Zhong Lun Law Firm, one of the largest full service law firms in China, to share his expertise on labour disputes.
Cherry explained the reasons behind many labour disputes in China, using statistics and examples, and provided some useful advice for reducing the number of disputes through the of drafting employment contracts, designing the staff handbook and making social insurance payments. She also answered questions from the audience regarding their own experience of solving labour disputes in China. Kent introduced the Chinese laws and regulations related to labour disputes. He advised on how employers should prepare evidence for litigation and how much typical labour disputes usually cost employers. He also advised that the role of Trade Unions and relative government departments are important factors that can not be overlooked when dealing with any labour dispute issues. BritCham would like to show our appreciation to Cherry and Kent for sharing their expertise and insight with us and our members. Thanks to all who attended, and we are looking forward to seeing you at our future events.
