2018 Outlook 2018 and Social in GuangzhouBritCham’s Outlook for 2018 and Social Networking Event was held by the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong on 31st January 2018 in the Canton Residence, Guangzhou. We were pleased to welcome over 20 representatives from member companies and other partners to join our event, and it was a great honour to invite experts in different fields to share their predictions for the year ahead to our audience. To begin the talks, Steve Arrick, from British Consulate-General Guangzhou, highlighted the future business relationship possibilities between the UK and China in 2018 and beyond. Mr Arrick shared his views and insights on potential opportunities, according to both government’s polices such as Belt and Road Initiative and Made in China 2025. In summary, Mr Arrick felt that the outlook for growth and opportunity is positive in this ‘Golden Era’ between our two countries. Russell Brown OBE from LehmanBrown International Accountants introduced us to the background of the Global Implementation of the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) system and analysed the impact for both enterprises and individuals that would be made after China joins the CRS. This is a growing topic and guests received some incredibly useful guidance and explanation of the complex system. Robert Ritacca from Savills then provided us with a picture of the property investment opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Mr Ritacca highlighted the history of growth in various districts and cities across Guangdong and the GBA and offered some predictions into some potential new areas of growth in the region over the next few years. To conclude the talks, law expert Le Rong of Gowling WLG (UK) LLP presented her insights on Chinese Employment Law issues and its future development trend with more flexibility for both employers and employees. Le Rong’s talk showed the development of the legal system over the past few years and how future developments in the law may have an impact. Afterwards we invited our attendees to continue the discussion over a glass of wine and food, courtesy of our hosts at the Canton Residence. We would like to give thanks to all the participants involved in this event and hope that all in attendance learned something new and made some new connections that will help support your business in the year ahead. Finally, we would like to give big thanks to our speakers from the British Consulate-General, LehmanBrown, Savills and Gowling for sharing their insights and predictions and to the Canton Residence for the lovely venue and hospitality. We look forward to supporting all of you through more events from British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong in the year ahead. From all at the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong, we wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year! |
