Review of 2020

2020 was a tough year for many - but still a positive year for BritCham in many ways. Highlights included meeting Her Majesty’s Ambassador, connecting businesses, inspiring women and supporting worthwhile charities. 

Here we share just a few of the highlights from the BritCham team in 2020!

Membership

In 2020, BritCham Guangdong welcomed 38 new members to our membership - more members from business service sectors like legal services and manufacturing sectors joining our community. 

We added a new type of membership - Start-Up Membership with 4 on board in 2020, and a Referral Programme for members to enjoy an extra 3-month membership for each successful referral of the same type of their membership.

We currently have four Supporting Members. Supporting Membership is an higher tier corporate membership - a bespoke package offering extended services shaped to the needs of the Supporting Member.  We are delighted to include Britannia International School (Education), Fettes College Guangzhou (Education), Mission Hills (Diversified Business Groups), Clyde & Co (Business Services) as Supporting Members.

In 2021, BritCham Guangdong will continue to deliver business-savvy services to all corporate and individual members – thereby helping our members to "join the dots" in a complex business environment and to promote, share and connect, with an ultimate goal of business success. Events

Last year, BritCham Guangdong organised nearly 40 events and trainings both online and offline throughout 2020 and hosted over 4,700 attendees. 

We delivered 9 webinars and 3 seminars on hot business topics including education, tax, employment law and regulations, marketing, business development and industry insights. We listened to our members and arranged seminars on issues that mattered to their business, such as Marketing Strategy and Analysis and Employment Management under Covid-19. 

The majority of the events were held in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, but we have also spread the events across other locations such as Zhuhai. BritCham Guangdong will continue this trend in future by arranging more events across different parts of the Greater Bay Area.

To help members meet and get to know each other better, we arranged 9 social events such as networking drinks, a UK alumni event, and Christmas party!

Also in 2020, we were honoured to host Her Majesty's Ambassador to China Caroline Wilson CMG for membership receptions in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. 

We would like to thank all of our training partners, expert speakers and of course all of our members and guests who attended our events in 2020. We look forward to seeing you at a BritCham event soon!

Flagship Events

Members' Fireside (Guangzhou & Shenzhen)

The Members' Fireside is a member-focused event, dedicated to networking and matchmaking through an open-mic opportunity, this event will be open to BritCham GD members only with our new members and renewed members with the BritCham GD community. It’s named a "fireside" because we want it to be an intimate experiential experience in getting to know each and our businesses.

Executive Dinner (Guangzhou & Shenzhen)

The Executive Dinner is a high-level business sit-down dinner to meet like-minded people, communicating with people from different fields and sharing their experiences while enjoying a western-style dinner in a friendly atmosphere.

British Day (Guangzhou and Shenzhen)

Since 2010, British Day has been one of the most anticipated annual events in Guangdong Province. British Day celebrates British culture, offering you a relaxing day with family and friends with fun activities, music, prizes and great food and drink. Locals and other nationalities are all welcome.

In 2020, it was our genuine pleasure to welcome over 3,500 people to attend British Day in Guangzhou and Shenzhen in November. The highlight of the event was the traditional bagpipes performance, which delighted the audience of British expatriates, as well being very warmly received by our non-British guests who were seeing this form of performance!

Among the other highlights were family-friendly games at most of the member booths, British style musical performances on stage, as well as great British food and an exciting lucky draw, with dozens of amazing prizes which created a vibrant and lively atmosphere on the day.

Christmas Party (Guangzhou and Shenzhen)

Christmas Party is an annual event held both at Guangzhou and Shenzhen. To celebrate the festive season, once again this year BritCham held its Christmas Gala Dinner in Guangzhou and Christmas Party in Shenzhen, welcoming almost 200 guests for Christmas food, drinks, festive music and prize giveaways. 

BritCham Social Responsibility (BSR)

While receiving support from members, BritCham Guangdong never forgets to give back to society. In 2020, we supported Hopeful Hearts and Captivating. Altogether, we donated nearly RMB14,000 to help those in need. We hope next year we can do more.
