Special Education Needs (SEN) and Mental HealthThe Adolescent Journey Special Education Needs (SEN) and Mental Health On 25th September, British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong successfully organised an education seminar: The Adolescent Journey - Special Education Needs (SEN) and Mental Health at British Center, Guangzhou and welcomed more than 40 educators. The majority of our attendees are from International schools and education related institutes. Among them, 15 of them are Senior Executives & Management team, while 27 are teachers. Angelique Amoakoh, Director of Angel Early Years Consultancy and Manager of Stone Eden Angelique first guided us to look at what Disability and Special Educational Need are and how they can be linked. Then an understanding of special educational needs, how to identify it and support a child with an SEN was provided. She argued that early intervention is important and advised educators to act fast. She also illustrated the importance of parent partnership when dealing with a child who has an SEN and introduced methods to put a support plan together using EYFS or British National Curriculum. Dr.Chambers, Section Chief of Mental Health Services Psychologist Dr. Chambers first introduced brain development and adolescent development, revealing the children's world from a different perspective. With vivid and interesting examples, he showed us some of the typical struggles that teenagers meet and need to cope with. After several interactive questions. he offered detailed guidance and advice on how to deal with helping and supporting teenagers that are facing these issues. ![]() Feedback from Attendees Mr. Dan Falcon from ULINK College Very lovely and straight to the point presentation in regards to the most complex issues of adolescense. As a Guidance Counselor for Chinese High school students...I found Dr. Chambers's presentation to be very practical and useful.
