September 25: The Adolescent Journey - Special Education Needs and Mental HealthSpecial educational needs is an important factor of mental health, people often confuse it for a disability and find it hard to handle or manage a child’s behavior referring to is as a disability order.
This often fosters for mis-diagnose and no benefit to the growth of the child’s learning and development. Another factor of special educational needs is that a lot of education professionals do not identify these in time.
Adolescents seem to be more mature, and certainly more tech savvy, than any other previous generation, however that idea may be misleading. They are still very susceptible to depression, anxiety and other problems of our modern world.
This lecture would help to understanding the difference between a disability and special educational needs which will allow for education professionals to ensure they support the child correctly and get the accurate intervention for them, also will explore some of the typical issues on mental health that modern teens meet and need to deal with, tips and advice on how to deal with helping and supporting people that are facing these issues.
Attendees will have a greater understanding of: l Understanding the difference between a disability and a special educational need l Knowing the importance of early intervention and how to act fast l The different types of SEN and what they are l How to put a support plan together for a child l The importance of parent partnership when dealing with a child who has a SEN l some of the typical struggles that teenagers meet and need to cope with. l Tips and advice on how to deal with helping and supporting teenagers that are facing mental health.
