Property Rights at the Canton Fair 

 

The Canton Fair is the largest trade fair in China, making it a venue for potential IP infringements. This workshop aims to equip you with tools to protect your IP effectively during the Canton Fair. Learn what to prepare before the fair, what steps you can to take if you encounter IP infringement at the fair, and how to follow up with enforcement after the event.

The China IPR SME Helpdesk’s experienced speakers will share their hands-on knowledge of how to deal with IP infringements at trade fairs in China. European companies, trade and diplomatic offices in China are all welcome to register for this practical workshop.Following the presentations, European SMEs will have the opportunity to sign up for a confidential, one-on-one IPR clinic with a IP lawyer to receive free, expert advice regarding your specific IP issue on a first come, first served basis.

Speaker Biographies:
 
Raymond Moroney, senior associate, Rouse Guangzhou
 
An experienced China IP rights expert, Raymond has been serving as acting Vice Chairman of the IPR Working Group of the Beijing Chapter of the European Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) since 2004. He brings his variety of IP expertise to the position, especially regarding enforcement. Raymond has also been working for Rouse since 2003 and has participated in a number of administrative, civil, criminal-related IP cases in China. He has advised on a wide variety of administrative and customs-related assignments, in addition to protection and enforcement at international trade fairs in China. Raymond is regularly called upon to give IPR briefings to visiting delegations from the European Union. He speaks English, Mandarin, French and German.
 
 
Edith Ruan, enforcement expert, Rouse Guangzhou
 
Based in Guangzhou, Edith is a China-qualified lawyer who joined Rouse in 2008. She manages IP rights enforcement cases, specialising in administrative actions and litigations. She also has extensive experience in enforcement in the China Import and Export Fair (the Canton Fair) and customs seizure cases regarding IPR. Edith speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese fluently.
 
 
Georgia Chiu, associate, Lovells Shanghai
 
A Hong Kong-qualified lawyer, Georgia has been with Lovells Shanghai for four years, specialising in intellectual property law. Prior to Lovells, she worked in the IP departments of international law firms in Hong Kong and Beijing. Georgia has extensive experience in handling contentious intellectual property cases, including patent and trademark litigation and anti-unfair competition in China. Her expertise also extends to advising clients on IP protection strategies at trade fairs and exhibitions. Georgia speaks English, Mandarin, Shanghainese and Cantonese.
 
 
Richard Moorhouse, consumer safety manager, Strix Ltd.

Richard began at Strix as an associate in 1988, handling all market areas including IP. He has been based out of Guangzhou for the past two years and has extensive experience in protecting Strix’s IPR at the Canton Fair and other trade fairs worldwide. Strix specializes in the development, manufacture and sales of safety control systems for small domestic appliances and filtration systems. It holds 476 patents and strenuously protects its innovative solutions worldwide. Strix has recently become the centre of media attention after winning a significant IPR infringement case against two Chinese defendants and was awarded damages by the Beijing Intermediate People’s Court.
